The Community Preparedness Trust was formed after Cyclone Gabrielle to help communities to prepare for disasters.

As part of this work they have created Emergency Pods, equipped with disaster response equipment, including communications and medical equipment, instant meals, clean water, power packs and more. It’s all designed to help communities look after themselves for the first 72 hours after a disaster.

Thanks to Toi Foundation funding, the Trust recently delivered Taranaki’s first pod to Tauranga Ika Marae.

“On opening the door for the first time…it’s fabulous! We’re comforted by the fact that we’d be able to play our part in terms of aiding our local community,” said Marty Davis, Tauranga Ika Marae Chairman.
