How We Fund | Our Funding Approach

Our Funding Approach

Tō Mātou Kaupapa Pūtea

Funding that creates lasting impact.

Our funding is designed to be flexible and responsive, meeting both immediate needs and long-term opportunities. Through strategic investment and collaboration, we help our communities bring ideas to life and enable change that matters.

Our Fund Types

Before applying, please read the fund policy document for each fund type below. These policies outline how we fund, eligibility criteria, and key terms to ensure your application aligns with our funding approach.

Strengthening Community Fund

We understand the significance and impact of our grants that increase access to opportunities and enhance wellbeing for our community. We do this by offering Annual, Capital, Programme and Event grants to not-for-profit organisations. Individual grants are also available to assist with New Zealand representative events.

This is the primary fund for most applicants. If you are unsure where your application fits, start here.

Strategic Fund

We are focused on working strategically to achieve our purpose. We do this through supporting, facilitating and engaging in strategic and collaborative initiatives and investments that have strong alignment to the Foundation’s strategic focus areas. This fund is for large-scale, multi-year partnerships and supports initiatives that have a broad regional or sector-wide impact.

This fund is not for general community projects. If your initiative does not have a clear strategic alignment, please refer to the Strengthening Community Fund instead.

Innovation Fund

We contribute to new and innovative seed or scale opportunities that may have a high potential for impact and align strongly to the Foundation’s strategic focus areas.

Investing For Impact Fund

We make investments with the intention of generating a measurable, beneficial societal and/or environmental impact, alongside a financial capital and social return.

For this Fund, the Foundation will invest in four key areas, identified as its Levers of Change:
• Housing • Education • Employment • Environment
