Basketball Court for Stratford
The Stratford Community Sports Society operates the TET MultiSports Centre on behalf of the many sports groups that call it home base.
"Sports like tennis, hockey, volleyball, netball, squash, and indoor soccer use the stadium for games and practices. We had the basketball lines painted for a while, but until this year, we haven't had hoops for the court," said Bruce Cleland, Committee Chairperson.
Funding of $25k from the Toi Foundation helped the Society to install two retractable basketball hoops to allow the Stratford Basketball Association to use the centre alongside the other codes.
"Through the Winter League there were about 130 kids playing. It's about the same in the Spring League, and there's around 180 adults in the summer league," said Bruce.
This year, the Basketball Association was also able to hold the Kath Davis Tournament using the Sports Centre's court, restaurant and bar, along with the basketball court in the nearby War Memorial Centre.
Bruce says the new court facilities offer opportunities to the whole community.
"Having a modern facility to operate basketball from all year round is a big plus. Above that, anyone from the community can ring up, hire the court if it's available and have a game of basketball."
