Horse Helping Humans
Horses Helping Humans Taranaki, Hōiho Hāpai Hapori, is an equine assisted learning program, Laura Menzies, Lead Kaiako (Facilitator), explained.
Using natural horsemanship exercises, the organisation teaches vulnerable rangatahi ways to regulate themselves and communicate confidently, with immediate feedback from the horses.
Funding from Toi Foundation has enabled 90 vulnerable young people aged 8 to 18 years from across Taranaki to attend free of charge.
The organisation also purchased a ute and float to eliminate the barrier of travel for their clients.
With the assistance from Toi Foundation, the organisation will open a new venue in coastal Taranaki, enabling them to offer more programs.
