It's all happening at Stratford Park

Stratford Park is a unique facility developed as a joint venture between the Stratford A&P Association and the Taranaki Motorsports Facilities Trust. The park currently includes the A&P showgrounds and motorsport and equestrian facilities. Its ongoing development is run by a steering committee of volunteers from each of the interested groups and a project manager.

“Stratford Park is a space for everyone who shares our vision of creating an exceptional facility that benefits the entire community. It’s not just about motorsport and equestrian - we have a broader vision, inviting other clubs to join us,” said Philip Macey, Chair of the Stratford Park Steering Committee.

Many aspects of Stratford Park are already up and running.

“We’ve already got equestrian and motorsport events, lawnmower racing and buildings where you can run market days and shows. In April, there’ll be a massive car show which we hope will attract people from all over. There’s a bridle path, a QE2 covenant on the kahikatea trees, and we’ve turned an old rubbish dump into a very scenic nature area," said Tracey Blake, Project Manager,

Funding from the Toi Foundation has enabled the Steering Committee to fund their Project Manager and develop sound structures for creating a strategic plan, governance, and marketing.

“We’re not council or government funded so we have to raise every single dollar that we need. We’re all volunteers and have full-time jobs. We needed to establish a solid foundation of structure, policies & procedures and the Toi funding has enabled us to take a big step forward in that regard,” said Philip.

“We’re planning walkways, cycleways, horticulture areas, playgrounds, commercial buildings and an education centre. We’ve created a vision that’s completely open to whatever the Taranaki community needs for the future.”
