Mobile Classroom Makeover

Taranaki Life Education helps tamariki in our community make healthy choices for themselves and others. For over 25 years, their two bright mobile classrooms have travelled around Taranaki schools to teach their innovative health programmes.

"We go to 50-60 primary and intermediate schools and reach about 11,000 children each year," said Matt Goodin, Trust Vice Chairperson.

"Our educators do a fantastic job. They have amazing relationships with the principals and teachers. They get in contact prior to the visits to discuss the lessons and then send out documentation and relevant resources for them to use before their arrival," said Karyn Grant, Trust Chair.

"They then work with each class in the mobile classroom and leave a pack for the children to take home as well. It's an amazing resource for the teachers because of the vast array of topics we can cover according to the needs of their class."

Funding of $18k from the Toi Foundation enabled the Trust to reskin the classrooms, replacing the old, tired skins with colourful images by Taranaki artist Paul Rangiwahia.

"They're now in a much better condition. The educators are proud of them. We're proud of them. The schools are excited to see them. They've got a really relevant message decorating the trucks and telling our story,” said Karyn

"The work we're doing is really important, now more than ever. We rely on volunteers and funding to help maintain and drive our classrooms, pay our educators and keep the lessons going.

Toi's support has been amazing, and we thank them for their continued support."
