Re-use and Recycle at Reuse Shop
New Plymouth's Reuse Shop sells repurposed, recycled and upcycled goods, including furniture, electrical goods, tools and bikes. Run by the Wise Charitable Trust, it aims to create sustainable employment and pathway training and to educate the community on waste sustainability.
"Thanks to the Toi Foundation funding of $150k a year for the past three years, we have created more than 16 jobs, diverted more than 580 tonnes of waste from landfill, and sold over 196,000 items.
"We have also educated the community on waste diversion, sustainability and the ability to re-use, recycle and repurpose their waste," said Paul Scouller, General Manager
In four years, The Junction Reuse Shop has had over 100,000 visitors and drop-offs from the community.
"Thousands of Taranaki people have benefited from this grant. We also use The Junction building products in our Healthy Homes remediation initiative to make homes healthier, warmer and drier places to live around the region.
"By using the Reuse Shop, our budgets can go further into improving the home's health for the families we work with."
