Recognising the best

The Taranaki Business Excellence Awards are run by the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce. The Not for Profit category was started in 2016 to celebrate charitable organisations in the region.

“We knew that some not-for-profit organisations were wanting to connect more with businesses, check out their processes and perhaps find ways to improve,” Michelle Brennan, Entrant and Judging Facilitator, said.

“We encourage these organisations to enter the awards and go through the judging process. The whole process reinforces and recognises good practice within the sector, and raises the bar. The entrants look at the feedback and change or improve their processes.”

Funding from Toi Foundation enables the not-for-profit sector to be recognised for the significant contributions they make to the community.

“The awards are open to any not-for-profit organisation, not just members of the Chamber of Commerce. We get small societies right up to large charities. There's nothing else like this for not-for-profit organisations.”

“It is growing the connections between the business sector and not-for-profit sector. Not-for-profit organisations play a big role in our communities and a lot of business people are members of those organisations as well. We hear stories that some of our business members have given time or mentoring to help these not-for-profits improve," Michelle said.

Taranaki Kiwi Trust won the Not for Profit category at the Business Excellence Awards ceremony in November 2022.
