Taranaki Kiwi Trust
Taranaki Kiwi Trust has a short and succinct vision: ‘Kiwi - From rare to everywhere’.
The charitable organisation’s biggest project is trapping pests on 30,000 hectares of country, which is mostly in eastern Taranaki.
There are opportunities for the community to participate in kiwi monitoring and kiwi surveying. Some of these volunteers see and interact with kiwi.
Western brown kiwi were recently taken off the Threatened Species list, meaning they are no longer classed as ‘threatened’.
“We’re really happy to have played our part in this, but it will take massive ongoing community participation to continue to protect our native species,” Celine Filbee, Trust Manager, said.
